The future of hybrid applications? Growth, growth and more growth – Honza Sladek

Ahead of you is the next installment of the series "3 questions to the speaker". This time Honza Sladek, an expert in Responsive Web Desig and CSS, who will be coming to Mobile Trends Confernce 2021 for the Czech Republic, answers your questions.

Grzegorz Kozubowski: What do you think is better – mobile sites or Responsive Web Design? Why?
Honza Sladek: I am a web developer and believe in "one web" ("one web"), as Tim Berners-Lee put it. So Responsive Web Design is closest to my heart, and it just so happens that this solution is best for about 80% of websites. Even though the proper application of RWD is a big challenge.

However, mobile sites continue to be useful and I personally happened to choose them several times as the most suitable for a project. That's why I'll give you an honest answer: it depends.
What do you think is the future of hybrid applications?
Growth, growth and more growth. With the increasing speed of mobile devices, hybrid apps will become a great form factor for many applications, especially in the non-commercial segment. I have already met with several corporations that are experimenting with using hybrid applications as their internal management systems.
You will give a talk at the Mobile Trends Conference 2021. What will be the topic of your speech?
Every day I meet people who are making a very important decision – how to enter the world of mobile. And very often I see that they make this decision based on their personal preferences, ignoring objective data and the pros and cons of each approach. During my talk, I'll show everyone what I think is a good framework for making these kinds of decisions, what the unwritten rules are, and what obstacles and joys you can expect when creating mobile sites, responsive or leading to an app store, whether hybrid or native.

English version:

Grzegorz Kozubowski: What, in your opinion, is better: mobile websites or Responsive Web Design? Why?
Honza Sladek: I'm a web developer and I believe in "one web" as explained by Tim Berners-Lee. Therefore Responsive Web Design is closer to my heart and as it happens, better fit for around 80% of websites out there. Though it's quite a challenge to do right.

But mobile websites also have their usage and I personally chose them more then once as a best fit for a project. So to give you the honest answer: it depends.
What, in your opinion, is the future of hybrid mobile apps?
To grow and grow and grow. As mobile devices get faster, hybrid mobile apps will be a great fit for many apps, especially in non-consumer segment. I see corporations already playing with the idea of developing hybrid apps for their internal management systems.
