Thank you to all my friends who have loyally visited this site and supported all of us. We’ve had a great time, and I will never forget you.

God bless you every one, and may He keep you in peace. May He have mercy on what we have done as a country.

For the last three days I’ve been humming the song I sang in church, “My Shepherd Shall Supply My Need”. I thank God for that comfort as I rely on that promise moving forward.

Both Randy and Mo are unable to continue blogging and it has been a burden on both Steph and Steve; all of them have been the best friends and partners anyone could have. I cannot continue this endeavor on my own, and will not further impose upon the kindness and loyalty of those I love.

Thank you for so many good years. I’ll keep you always close in my prayers.

update: If you would like to continue the discussion, please visit Hillbilly Politics.

No, I am not talking about the election today, nor even the firing of the Coach at UT (Tennessee).

I have enjoyed so much the opportunity that was afforded me by the nice ladies at Hangrightpolitics. Over the years, I have made many good friends here and both like and respect the commenters here, but I have made a decision not to host anymore here (or anywhere else).

Most of the older commenters know that I have diabetes. One of the results of this is that I cannot blog continously as I am accustomed to doing, because of my eyes. Also, I am burnt out. I have been doing this for many years and have basically used all my ideas up.

I wanted to do this today so that no one will think that this is sour grapes because of the elections today. I still think McCain will be our President tomorrow.

We have fought the good fight and I am proud of my association with all you good folks.

Thank you all for being my friend. I am not going away totally. I will still comment occasionally, but not near as much as I have in the past.

May God bless you all as he has me.

Alright folks, the big day is finally here and, like Kathy I’ve decided to do something about it. I took the day off work to help the Tarrant Count Repuplican Party with GOTV efforts. I’ll be taking people who need rides to the polls. I know McCain’s going to win Texas but it’s better than sitting around doing nothing.

Please, if you’re able - especially if you live in a battle ground state - contact your local GOP. Help make phone calls, talk to your neighbors, and/or drive those who need help to the polls.

America’s future is important. Let’s not waste this opportunity. Besides, wouldn’t you just LOVE to see a McCain victory that causes Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann to have a manic breakdown on live TV?

As the regular co-conspirators here already know, I’ve decided to step away from political blogging, hence my absence the last two weeks. My personal life has become too hectic and things are moving so much on a personal level that my “big picture” focus has greatly narrowed.

I’d rather keep the details to myself (though Kathy, Steph, Steve and RP know them) mainly because I’d be writing for the rest of the night. But suffice it to say that family and Jesus have become the primary drivers in my life.

I’ve also had the pleasure to see a book and other materials that I helped to edit get published. (I’m not mentioned in the credits, but that doesn’t matter, because that’s not why I did it.) The book is Shreddin the Gnar, and it’s an incredible outreach resource attached to Dare 2 Share’s new resource, GOSPEL Journey: Maui. (Follow the link if you’re interested.) Essentially, regardless of what happens on Tuesday, I want to help tap into teens’ search for meaning — for God — and be the Holy Spirit’s instrument to bring them to Jesus. It’s not like I’ve suddenly found Jesus, because since 2006, when I started writing here, I’ve been committed. Now, though, I’m just more focused.

So, anyway, before I really start rambling, I wanted to say “hey” and hi to all I’ve talked to over the last 3 years, and let you know I haven’t disappeared. I’m going to do one final post on the presidency of George W. Bush, somewhat in the vein of my other presidents reports (but not fully). And speaking of the presidents, I’ve only halted my presidents’ series. I’m cleaning up all of the previous posts and will be moving the 18th and 19th century presidents to a new site by early next year. Stopping at Benjamin Harrison & Grover Cleveland turned out to be beneficial, because my project is now divided neatly into 18th/19th century presidents and the 20th/21st century ones.

And I have a new site, one that’s dedicated to what I optimistically call my best essays on books, movies, Christianity and history. The site is called STL Essays, and feel free to stop on by. Some of the stuff should be familiar, as I did some of my best non-professional (e.g., non-paid) work here at HRP.

Anyway, it’s been fun, entertaining, educational, etc. etc. I’m not dropping off the planet, though, because as long as HRP is going on, I’ll pop in — and catch some of you on e-mail. Cheers!

Oh, before I go, here are some predictions. I’d love to be proven wrong about the first one, but I really don’t think so.

President: Obama in a squeaker, 51-49. I just don’t believe McCain will pull this out.

Senate: NO Dem veto-proof majority.

House: Dem gains, but possibly just shy of, or just over, veto-proof.

Missouri governor: Dem Jay Nixon. I’ve actually always liked him, because he’s a down-home Missourian and has done a decent job as AG. Replacing him as AG will hopefully be Mike Gibbons (R), who is the MO Senate leader and my state senator.

As for Obama, nothing will change as far as the country’s direction in Iraq and the economy. The war in Iraq is won and the economic fixes are in place. Obama will take the credit but will deserve none.

Down the road, Joe Biden will be marginalized and be the opposite of the strong VP, Dick Cheney, and will prove that once more, the office of the vice president isn’t worth a bucket of warn p***.

Pelosi will get the boot. She is utterly incompetent.

Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and Michael Steel will lead the GOP back out of the wilderness that it deservedly is heading into. The media, a pack of lying, whoring jackals, will learn nothing from this election except delusions of their own power. (And those idiots still claim that Sarah Palin is a “drag” on McCain. Yeah, they say that after they poll Dems and Dem-leaning independents! What piffle. Palin is the ONLY one who has make this a horse race, instead of a blowout.)

Meanwhile, a revolt will simmer in America among the Joes and Bobbys and Sarahs against the power of Washington that will finally explode in 2012 after 4 years of hard-left rule.

Finally, I leave you with two bits of wisdom from two of my biggest heroes:

“I know no method to secure the repeal of bad or obnoxious laws so effective as their stringent execution.”
— Ulysses S. Grant

“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them.”
— Frederick Douglass

Sorry I’ve neglected HRP this week, I’ve been trying to put my efforts toward a McCain Victory. Please, go to the McCain website and make some calls for GOTV, which you can do from your own home, or get down to the local Victory office and volunteer to hand out GOP materials on Tuesday. We need people willing to drive the elderly and infirm to the polls.

I’ll be out most of the time between now and the election. For the record I don’t fight this hard when I think I’m losing. I know we’re going to win this but it will take a solid GOP turn out. Do your nearest duty; your country stands on a precipice. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Consider this an open thread for links and discussion. God bless you and I thank you for all that you are doing.

The closer we get to The Day, events are moving faster and faster. It’s difficult to keep up with the events and get a real perspective on this national election. It’s a struggle to decide what to write and say to those who are undecided or what to say to those whose minds have been made up for some time. So, just a few things to consider as we move into Tuesday:

Voter Fraud: There’s a site called Election Journal which is tracking all the cases of voter fraud they can find. It’s worth a visit that might shock you with the various way voter fraud is being perpetrated.

Energy independence: Apparently Obama wants to bankrupt the Coal Industry, brazen enough to talk about it openly with a newspaper this close to election.

If that’s not enough to get your dander up, consider he also wants to “redefine agriculture“:

(2/3 into the article) I was just reading an article in the New York Times by Michael Pollen about food and the fact that our entire agricultural system is built on cheap oil. As a consequence, our agriculture sector actually is contributing more greenhouse gases than our transportation sector. And in the mean time, it’s creating monocultures that are vulnerable to national security threats, are now vulnerable to sky-high food prices or crashes in food prices, huge swings in commodity prices, and are partly responsible for the explosion in our healthcare costs because they’re contributing to type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease, obesity, all the things that are driving our huge explosion in healthcare costs. That’s just one sector of the economy. You think about the same thing is true on transportation. The same thing is true on how we construct our buildings. The same is true across the board.

If that’s not enough to get your riled, there’s this: Civilian National Security Force and Aunti Zeituni who is an illegal alien that Obama didn’t even know was in the States. Now, I don’t know how everybody else thinks but if a man can’t even help out a family member or keep in touch enough to even know where they are, how in the world is he going to keep his promises to this woman?

I’m sure everybody is just sick of Joe the Plumber but you gotta remember next time it could be you.

I’m not going to tell anybody who to vote for. I know who I’m voting for because there really is only one choice this election. If you give both your head and your heart equal voice, I believe you know, too. I’m counting on you, America, to preserve what has made us strong and unique among all the nations ever formed on the earth.

God told us to be good stewards of our money; and since your campaign is an object lesson in how to waste a gazillion dollars and still LOSE, you are a bad investment.
