Is THIS this “hope and change” we need?! Media, Obama, liberals savage “Joe the Plumber”
FACT: The media have done more sliming and smearing, er, “reporting” on Joe the Plumber this week than they EVER did on Obama.
The media and revolting liberals have gone after this plumber guy because he asked Obama a question. He wasn’t a plant, Obama just happened to be on his street. All he did was ask a question.
And what have they done? Says Ed Morrissey:
And Joe Wurzelbacher didn’t give a speech or make a commercial. He asked a question. He stood on a rope line, and Obama picked him to ask it. The Tanning-Bed Media seems to feel that they have a duty to expose every last part of Wurzelbacher’s life, but that asking Obama to explain his political partnerships with Tony Rezko and William Ayers, and his long friendship and financial support of rabid demagogues Jeremiah Wright and Michael Pfleger, are not just out of bounds but downright racist.
Bottom line: Democats are desperate to ensure that nothing — and no one — derails Obama’s coronation.

One can only hope that the MSM’s efforts to tear down Joe Wurzelbacher will backfire. It’s one thing to tear down Hillary Clinton or John McCain, it’s another to tear down John Q. Public.

Mo, I was going to blog on this today, too, so I’d like to add some things to your post.
First, this attack on Joe the Plumber goes beyond saving Obama. As Lorie Byrd stated, Obama volunteered the information of his own free will and in their efforts to cover up the huge mistake he made, they have attacked a private citizen for simply asking a question. They unlawfully invaded his privacy to do so.
Second, Obama will kill the American Dream which Lorie Byrd also admirably defined. That’s the message that needs to be hidden because Joe the Plumber asked a simple question. Joe the Plumber could have been any of us here or anywhere else in the country. It wouldn’t have made a difference. We would have gotten the same treatment.
Third, Obama has threatened opposition media in this same way. Corsi was given the same treatment for his book on Obama. Likewise David Freddoso and Stanley Kurtz. No one shall question TheOne.
It’s the worst case of killing the messenger as I’ve ever seen. If people think electing Obama to the presidency will stop this insanity, they had best think long and hard about it. With the power of the presidency behind him his reach will be so long there will be no place to hide from his vengeance. Once people realize he’s just a man and he does something they don’t like, they’ll be treated just like Joe the Plumber, Jerome Corsi, David Freddoso, and Stanley Kurtz. The Obama administration and complicit MSM won’t care what Constitutional laws they break to do it so long as their power is preserved.
What if it’s the media who turns on Obama and Congress? How long will they stand if they become “enemies of the State” as Joe the Plumber has done? We already know Obama supports a Fairness Doctrine which will kill the talk radio industry. Why not push it further into TV media, too?
Americans will be crushed along with any dreams they have. We will be alive in body but dead in spirit which is where the marxist left wants us.
We will be reliving Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, and Mao se Tung all over again. The only difference is it will be in our front yards this time instead of the backyards of Europe.

Steph - yep.
What the uncritical liberals just can’t understand is that, despite the examples of the thankfully now-defunct Soviet Union and Communist Bloc, and tragic examples in Africa (Zimbabwe, anyone?), they still think socialism works.
It doesn’t. It’s a dismal failure EVERY TIME IT’S TRIED. (And socialistic governments murdered more of their own people in the 20th century than all of the century’s wars combined.)
Toqueville nailed it (like he did so many other things) in the 1830s: “The American Republic will endure until the Congress discovers they can bribe the people with their own money.” And that’s what’s been happening here since the 1930s on a massive scale (but started in earnest in the 1890s). If Obama is elected and has a superliberal majority AND he acts on all that he promises, we will totter on losing the republic, to be replaced by a “be-all, end-all government” supersate.
And before friend Bruce accuses me of fearmongering, understand that *some* of McCain’s proposals leave me feeling the same way. Both parties have enabled this.

Yes, they have for their own selfish reasons and in the interest of bipartisanship. I have to say bipartisanship isn’t worth much if it makes an enemy of the people who are being governed by it. Unfortunately, that is what has happened; “for the people, by the people” is the enemy of the State now.
October 17th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Bipartisanship is overated. Every bad law on the books have been the results of bipartisanship.

To me it says volumes that they have to go after an average, normal person who simply asked a hard question of a candidate for president of the United States. It’s just proof to me they have nothing substantive to discuss, it’s proof they’re in the tank for obama and another reason why a lot of people are turning off the alphabet soup media.

do facts matter
October 17th, 2008 at 10:01 am
Kay and IP, up until they attacked an average “Joe” I don’t believe facts mattered all that much but the average “Joes” in this country are seeing themselves getting attacked with every little piece of dirt they air on Joe the Plumber. The fact that they are on the attack tells you that “Joe” resonated with the public more than anyone thought possible.

RP,
“Joe the Plumber for President!!!!”
He’d probably do a better job than McCain…….
Obama in ‘08…..400 years in the making

IP, ya can’t help but love a Thomas Sowell article. He’s tops.
October 17th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Bruce - I know you’re just trying to tweak noses with things like “400 years in the making,” but please, sir. Voting for Obama for president is no “400 years in the making.” Rather, it’s 2 years in the making to elect a phony Chicago hustler as president whose primary selling points are his black skin and hallmark phrases.
Obama in 08 - Socialism is here!
October 17th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Big Mo–add to that if he was a Republican, color of skin and hallmark phrases notwithstanding, he would be nowhere. Look at what they did to Michael Steele, Ken Blackwell, Condoleeza Rice, etc. I’ll harp on this time and time again because it’s the truth.

It’s not the question, it’s the response. Obama wants to “spread the wealth”, plain and simple.

Cam,
You have won the idiot for the day award. Congratulations.

Hello,
I thought that you might appreciate reading this blog from a PUMA website.
October 17th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
“Obama went through the familiar motions of first denying he said what he said, then admitting he said it but claiming he was taken out of context, then explaining what he meant to say while defending his point in saying it, until finally begrudgingly apologizing for starting the whole mess.”
FYI - we refer to this as WORM: What Obama Really Meant
October 17th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
As Democrats, we feel more in touch with McCain/Palin than we do with the MoveOn.org/Daily Kos/latte liberal Obama crowd.
And that’s absolutely stunning to us.
STUNNING.
And it tells us that if Democrats and the MSM continue to pound “Joe Plumber”, they do so at their own peril, running the risk of a major backlash from middle Americans who will put all the pieces together and realize the Democratic party is just not for them anymore.
Quote from your link, Read My Lipstick.
Be careful. As us Reagan democrats will profess: You will never go back to the dem party.

RML. I’m definitely going to have to remember that acronym,
Somehow, it just seems so fitting.
