Boy Follows Man
In truth as well as deeds. Watch the video of McCain and Obama present for the 9/11 cermony in New York via the link provided. While Ms. Malkin centered upon the tossing of the roses there was much more going on than that: Obama was most definitely uncomfortable being there and took his lead from John McCain.
Over and over again throughout the commentary from MSNBC, there would be descriptions of what McCain was doing and speculations as to why, followed up by a “I’m sure Obama…”, which, in turn, was followed by excuses for why Michelle Obama wasn’t there.
To top that off, notice the pleasure both McCains felt when the first responders pinned insignia to their lapels. All the way through that line, none proffered the same to Obama, yet, when he finally joined the group at the end where the McCains stopped to talk to those in uniform and civilians, he was wearing one. One wonders if that was the delay in rejoining the others in the group conversation. One wonders if some enterprising paparazzi caught on film what transpired in that minute when Obama was lagging behind the McCains.

I saw only a couple of seconds of yesterday’s events.
But last night, starting at around 10, I watched MSNBC for about an hour and a half. They rebroadcast the unaltered and complete NBC/MSNBC broadcast from 9/11.
It was amazing and jaw dropping to watch it unfold again, even though I knew what was happening — or about to happen.
September 12th, 2008 at 9:19 am
I didn’t get to watch it because of other issues yesterday and crashed about 7 last night. That video on Malkin’s site is all I’ve seen so far. It was enough to have me in tears all over again.

Michele has been hidden away, just like hillary was in 1992.
September 12th, 2008 at 10:34 am
The difference is easily explained. McCain was there to honor the loss of American lives, Obama was there to remember the hijackers.

Stephanie,
“BOY”…….so now you are calling Obama a boy….a typical southern racist term used against black men to make them believe they were “less than men”………….now I am adult enough to understand what you were saying and what the point you were trying to get across…..and I am not calling you a racist…..the same consideration should be given Obama on the now famous “lipstick” comment……he was in no way calling Palin a pig and was making reference to the McCain policies…….It was in no way meant to be a sexist statement………the republicans, some women, and the news media need to grow up and take an adult view on things and not try and parse every phrase said to make it negative………and as far as last nights event it was just what I expected and what was advertised….the candidates were not suppose to make it a campaign event (although neither one could help themselves and did some campaigning) but it was an event to remember 9/11 and to call the American people to service and responsibility…..You would have heard the same thing regardless of the order of the speakers….Actually I think is speaks to both candidates the fact they could put down their differences for a day and talk to the American people….. some how that point seems to have gotten lost amonst the group here……..But the fight will start again today…..

Bruce, you are being sensitive again. Compared to a 72 year old man, a 47 year old man is is a “boy”. Not everything is racial.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Bruce,
The lipstick remark is not significant in that any one person sees it as ’sexist’. It was a stumble because the perception is that he is sexist and he reinforces that with this little tempest in a teapot. He’s lost his ‘change’ mantle to two people who have records on reform. McCain is wiping the floor with him on perceptions - and as the polls continue to slide, that perception is that he is not graceful under stress will be reinforced by his actions. Why? Because he isn’t.
I don’t think Palin cared one whit what Obama called her, I’m sure he has worse names for her that he says in private.
Here’s an example of Obama’s problem yesterday: Where was Michele? Cindy McCain walked with her husband to offer condolences and to remember 9/11, but Mrs. Obama was conspicuously absent. We noticed.
That won’t help Obama in the ‘patriotism’ perception, and it undermines him in authenticity, his weakest area.
It’s not the lipstick, Bruce, it’s the last four years.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
RP,
“Bruce, you are being sensitive again. Compared to a 72 year old man, a 47 year old man is is a “boy”. Not everything is racial.”…..
Obviously you didn’t read everything that I said…take a little time and read the whole comment…..I was making that exact point not everything is racial nor is everything sexist I said in my comment ……”now I am adult enough to understand what you were saying and what the point you were trying to get across…..and I am not calling you a racist….” Tell me RP how is that being sensitive……Please read my whole comment……
Obama in ‘08……The fight has just begun…..
September 12th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Bruce,
I did read the whole thing, and I guess I owe a Mea Culpa.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Bruce, I agree with RP in that you are being sensitive again. I meant it in terms of maturity; of thoughts and actions, as well as age. If he were white, I would have said the same thing and did, in another post long ago when Fred was still in the running. Where he led then, the rest followed, including McCain.
I don’t believe the “lipstick” comment should have gotten the press it did but I do believe he meant it obliquely as a slight to Palin … and McCain with his succeeding comment. It’s to be expected in political battles. The media is the only entity that seems to be overly concerned with political correctness.
If you want to spend time parsing every word I say looking for something to accuse me of intentionally doing, I’m sure you’ll find something. But don’t expect me to apologize for something that was not my intent.
I don’t watch my words that closely for fear of offending someone… like that fellow who called the Obamas ‘uppity.’ Uppity is a southern term meaning snobby. Even back in the days of slavery and the civil rights movement it was applied equally to anybody who thought he or she was better than everybody else. But now? It will hang around that congressman’s neck for the rest of his life.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Kathy,
” Here’s an example of Obama’s problem yesterday: Where was Michele? Cindy McCain walked with her husband to offer condolences and to remember 9/11, but Mrs. Obama was conspicuously absent. We noticed. ”
So you noticed….First of all the last that I heard it is Barack Obama and John Mcain who are running for president not their wives or even their VP picks….and so what if Michelle wasn’t there maybe she was at home taking care of one of her daughters because she had a cold or maybe she had a ballet lesson to attend to or maybe even she had a “hockey” game to go to…….This seems to be lost on the Republican party Michelle is a woman and a mom too with young daughters maybe she put some family issues first and not the fact she is somehow unpatriotic…….She is the wife and mother of a very close family but no one seems to notice that……Somehow she is portrayed as less that human….
Obama in ‘08…the fight has just begun…….
September 12th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I won’t apologize because it’s not the first time he’s referenced something in that way. Kinda like Obama’s I won’t criticize (fill in the blank) while detailing everything he won’t criticize upon. It’s still out there and it’s still been said, no matter how he tries to justify it. That’s politics. This is a blog of friends.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Stephanie,
You like RP obviously did not read my whole comment let me say it again….the very point I was making is that “not everything said is racist nor is everything said sexist”…which is where this campaign is headed as portrayed in the media…Please read everything I said….No where was I calling you racist nor did I believe you have anything to apologize for……Actually I think it is you and RP who seem to be a little too senistive…….Please once again read my whole comment not just the first line….
Obama in ‘08…….the fight has just begun
September 12th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Bruce - I wish those such as yourself would impress upon other liberals that there is a very serious disconnect between the way the media portray Michelle Obama and Sarah Palin.
M.O. is held up as the ideal for the choices she’s made. She’s a strong, accomplished woman. Likewise, S.P. is a strong, accomplished woman. But she is crucified in the media and among the left (redundant) because she doesn;t have that “D” after her name.
September 12th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I did read the whole post but this isn’t the first time you’ve “not accused” me of racism. You just do it sideways like that makes it not count. The first time or two, yeah, I can see it, but after that it becomes a pattern. Now, I like you, Bruce, even if we differ politically, but it is becoming a pattern with you that I wish you would stop.
I don’t care if Obama is ten shades of green, I’m not voting for him because he’s a marxist and I will not vote for him until he clears his brain out of the rot of marxism. My reasons will be plain enough when I finish an article I’m writing.
September 12th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Bruce,
Where is Michele be treated as “less than human”?
September 12th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Stephanie,
” You just do it sideways like that makes it not count.”
You know what……What I said seems to offend you so for that I apologize……I was making a point not calling you or anyone here a racist in a sideways manner…you should know me well enough by now that if I had in mind to call you a racist I would do it straight out and not in some sideways manner….let me bulletize it so maybe you can better understand what I was trying to say..or maybe someone else who really read what I said can explain it to you……1) I stated that I understood the point you were making 2) I stated I was not calling anyone a racist 3) then I gave the anology that the same thing should be applied to the “lipstick” remark made by Obama, he was not calling Palin a pig or being sexist…..THE POINT I WAS MAKING WAS NOT THAT ANYTHING YOU SAID WAS RACIST BUT THAT SIMPLE THINGS LIKE THAT CAN BE TURNED INTO SOMETHING THEY WEREN’T MEANT TO BE WHEN SAID AND USED AGAINST YOU. AGAIN LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR I WAS IN NO WAY CALLING YOU OR ACCUSING YOU OF BEING A RACIST OR MAKING A RASIST COMMENT OR HAVING ANYTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR SDEWAYS OR ANY OTHER WAY……..

Okay, then. Let’s agree to not talk about this anymore and let’s get back to fighting about politics. I like fighting with you over politics but not crap like this.

Yeah, Steph.
Back to politics.
Bruce, “YOUR MAN IS GOING DOWN”
September 12th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
My internet flaked out several hours ago and I just got it back - looks like I missed the ‘fun?’?
Bruce,
Obama has an authenticity problem. I was just pointing out that Michele should have been there, instead I read that she was someplace campaigning. The first release on the topic was that it was the kids’ first week of school, but later it was revealed that she was in MS or someplace campaigning or fundraising. If you want I’ll look for a link on that? Just sayin’ and of course you may disagree - it was just obvious to me that she had ‘better things to do’ than a 9/11 memorial.
I’ve also heard that Obama isn’t making his fund raising targets, and since he didn’t take public financing, he has many fundraisers (which is where the candidate is preaching to the choir) instead of out winning votes. He may regret that decision as well.
I think we are all ‘too sensitive’ about the term racist mainly because it pushes everybody’s buttons. I am sure that Obama meant to turn the phrase exactly as he did, since the DNC website had a pig photo with glasses on it, Toles (where it seems obama gets his stump speech, see yesterday’s post had made the pig joke) made the connection, as did the crowd behind him. There’s that plausible deniability stuff, but I think it was staged to show how Obama would NOT back down and apologize. That was a rookie, and unforced error. I know Obama wants to look tough, but from the polls lately, he shouldn’t do it by beating up on a woman.
September 12th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Well, Obama and McCain both agreed to suspend politics for yesterday. Mrs. McCain was there with her husband, Governor Palin was being interviewed, Biden was who knows where, and Michelle… the media lied at first and said she was home with the girls for their first week of school but then she was spotted in Indiana and later in Cinncinati. I suppose that’s suspending politics since Obama himself wasn’t campaigning.
They don’t help themselves by appearing crass and certainly don’t help themselves when the media lies for them. Besides, Obama just cost himself the vote of a good swath of the over 65 crowd with his ad about McCain.

“… the media lied at first and said she was home with the girls for their first week of school but then she was spotted in Indiana and later in Cinncinati. “…..
Both of those locations are no more than a “puddle jumper” away from her home…She could have dropped the girls off…made her stops and been back on time to serve the girls dinner…It’s called multitasking….Most mothers have to do that just ask Sarah…once again you are assuming the worst…….

Indiana ._and_ Cinncinnati? And I used to pride myself on getting groceries and the house cleaned between dropping off and picking up kids. I must really be an underachiever!
So he suspended his campaign,,, and she was out campaigning on 9/11. It sounds even worse.
I’ve spent plenty of time in Chicago, Bruce, my husband was born there and his mother is still there. I’ve driven there and flown there - and it’s a bit of a stretch to pick up kids and make two campaign stops - one of them in OHIO.
I was multitasking when Michele Obama was still playing with dolls, so I think I might know something about that, Bruce. The point is this was foolish on a purely political level - since sincerity is at issue. He would have looked more authentic, and the grief shared with a nation more deeply had his own wife not had something better to do. Just sayin’.
Years ago my husband’s grandmother died in Idaho. We drove out there with our two little girls in tow, because it was important. My brother in law flew, and his wife didn’t come. I know for a fact that she loved Grandma Clara, they just didn’t have the ability to both come for the funeral. I felt bad for my brother in law the whole time, he was lost without his wife, and he bore the weight of his grief alone. In the case of grief, wives belong beside their husbands, and husbands belong beside their wives. Of course if it is not grief and just a ceremony, it’s okay to go to Ohio.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
No, I’m not assuming the worst. Obama and McCain agreed to suspend politics and pointed out that Obama got around it by Michelle campaigning. The media lied and that made it appear crass and it doesn’t help his campaign any when they do that but they never learn.
Topping that off with the ad about McCain being old just adds to the negativity. The problem is, he has run out of message. He’s promised the moon but has given no specifics on how he’s going to accomplish everything and he can’t, plainly and simply. The Democrats do this every election and almost every election turns out the same. They make promises there is no way they can fulfill without bankrupting the entire nation. It happened to Al Gore, then John Kerry, and now it’s Obama’s turn.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Obama peaked about 5 months ago. McCain is just started to peak.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Steph, you mean the ‘aint he dead yet” ad. Horrible. Why not just come right out and call him old?
It’s almost comedic - “John McCain can’t even send an email” - OH NO the Dreaded not a techobuff revelation.
They must really really be counting on the young vote (that can barely track the date) to balance out for that reliable elderly vote.
Kick those old folks to the curb, Barry.
LOL. Dumbest ad in the history of political ads.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
If Obama is counting on the youth vote, he is real trouble. They don’t vote and they really don’t care. They can find a hundred things to do besides voting on Nov 4.
To say they are unreliable as a voting block is the greatest understatement of the century.
September 12th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
yep, that’s the one
September 12th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Steph,
He did not run ot of messages, he never had one to start with. Now that Sarah has stolen the Change Mantra, he is left with nothing.

It actually shows a turntable and a rubic’s cube. Calls McCain an antique - and what he is really poopooing is experience. Why does he do that? Because he doesn’t have any experience, that’s why.
Fortunately the electorate won’t draw the same conclusions.
On the experience issue, Morrissey has this on an AP poll comparing how the public judges it:

I’ve been over at Hot Air reading, turns out that McCain can’t work on a computer because of the injuries he sustained in VN. He’s handicapped.
Wow - The One has stepped in this big time. Making fun of a crippled person - that’s worse than Biden telling the paraplegic to walk - so not funny.
