Walk in another man’s shoes…
What would you do?

You are a young man who suffers from seizures as a result of a childhood injury. Your own limitations have inspired you to teach children with disabilities. In order for you to pursue that noble career, you must employ the use of a dog who can signal you when a seizure is coming, and carries a pack containing items for people to use to help you in the event you are disabled by a seizure. The dog is essential for you, without him you cannot do your job. In many ways he is your hero at the ready.

You’ve completed most of your education and now you must have classroom experience. Many of your students are muslims who say that your dog offends them. You know that many muslim taxi drivers will not transport blind people with seeing eye dogs, but it never occurred to you that the presence of your dog in the classroom could create such hostility.

A young Somali student threatens to kill your dog. The school officials defend the religious freedom of that child, claiming it is a ‘misunderstanding’. Still you fear for the safety of your dog, and in turn your own safety. The dog is not only your loyal companion but he is a working dog.

What would you do?

This is a true story. What this young man did is below the fold.

Link. Note the photo of Mr. Hurd with his dog Emmitt.

Terribly terribly sad, and terribly wrong.

What ever happened to separation of Church and State? A school is a government building(i.e. State). If a Muslim(Church) has a problem with that fellow’s lifesaving dog, then that Muslim is more than welcome to find a private school (not government funded) where his or her sensibilities are not assaulted.

I believe diversity no longer has the same meaning it once had according to the dictionary. I don’t know how they’d define it with this but it has no resemblence to the same word in the dictionary.

They should have kicked that student out and sent him back to Somalia where he can enjoy the vast splendor brought about by the rest of his fellow savages.

Unbelievable, thanks for posting this Kathy, must spread the word.

Soooo…Moslems have freedom of religion, but christians don’t.

    :((

It’s too bad he didn’t have a Mastiff, eh?

I heard of this yesterday, and I don’t know who I am more mad at, the school, or the “sensitive” Muslim. Enough is enough already.

  5. Jeanette Says:

My grandmother used to say if a person doesn’t like animals there’s something bad about him or her.

Looks like the Muslims need to bond with dogs and cats and find unconditional love and undying loyalty. No wonder so many of them want to kill. They have no respect for any life. Not all of them, but the ones who make the news.

    MG3.

Be mad at our government, who has fostered this kind of stupity.

  7. MG3 Says:

    RP,

    Absolutely.

Religion has no place in schools. It’s an individual freedom, so let him put up with the dog and be offended on his own time. Just ridiculous…

On a side note Barack Obama has just joined Disaboom, the largest online community for people with disabilities, where he has posted his stance on issues related to disability. Visitors can also log on and ask Obama their questions. Disaboom is encouraging the other candidates to join in the open dialogue so we’ll see what comes of that.
