Conservatives, What Does It Take?

Years ago, I used to watch Bill O’Reilly on Fox, but after a while I got tired of him spouting off about things that he obviously knew nothing about. I realized that when he went on a tirade against oil companies, a subject that I know a lot about. But the other day the tv was set on Fox when his show came on. I watched him interview Tammy Bruce and the subject was very interesting. They were discussing the role of the left in the firing of Don Imus.

Tammy Bruce is interesting. She’s a lifelong Democrat who supported George Bush and is a former president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women. But she’s written a book about and often publicly discusses the the importance of freedom of expression and personal liberty and how that liberty is under attack by the dangerous rise of Left-wing McCarthyism.

What Bruce mentioned on the O’Reilly Factor was how when she was president of NOW, she had a list of names and phone numbers of people in the MSM. When she wanted to raise an issue, test a theory or just bad mouth someone on the right, all she had to do was pick up the phone and make a few calls. Once the NY Slimes ran with the story, it was quickly picked up and was all over the news. If people hear a story enough, they begin to think it’s true even though many times the MSM never checked out the facts.

Bruce indicated that this technique is regularly done by the extreme left and they used it to bring down Imus. She wrote on her website, TammyBruce.com:

Keep in mind, Imus is not a ‘conservative,’ but he is also not a leftist. I see this attack on Imus very much like the attempt by Establishment Left to purge Lieberman (and what he represents) from the Democratic Party–there is indeed an ideological war going on, and even before the leftist gestapos out there feel they can turn to silencing conservatives, they have to purge their own house of liberals who don’t pledge allegiance to the leftist worldview. It’s why I get attacked by the left for not being a “real” Democrat and why Imus was one of the first on their Hit List to go.

It’s very Maoist, and very dangerous unless we all speak up. I think we’re a nation which can handle being occasionally offended, and can have that discussion socially. Yet, under the guise of protecting the apparently freakishly vulnerable and sensitive ears of minorities, we’re being asked to punish and destroy only those who dare to question and decry leftism, issue dissent and cause a politically incorrect ruckus (the two usually go together). All of us would prefer a world where certain phrases aren’t even considered as part of the social debate, but what this is really about is how far you are willing to be manipulated, in the name of ‘decency’, to allow and accept Stalinistic control over what can and cannot be heard.

But we’ve seen the left do this with others and Bruce indicated that they have a hit list of who they want to go after. And we know it’s true. Think of how many conservative officials the left has targeted — Rumsfeld, Libby, DeLay, Ashcroft, Wolfowitz, Gonzales, Rove, Cheney, Bush.

I ask where are the conservatives? Why aren’t we going after the corrupt Democrats? William Jefferson gets a pass. Murtha? Reid? Feinstein? The Clintons? Why don’t we pursue filing charges against the treasonous behavior of Pelosi?

We write many articles here at HRP to emphasize the threat of the left, the hypocrisy of the likes of Sharpton, Jackson and Clinton, the biased coverage of the media, the cowardice of the left, the plans for socialism (i.e., wealth distribution for votes using your tax dollars) . But for the life of me, I can’t figure out why we can’t fire up the base. What is the matter with us? Are we ready to concede defeat and just turn over the keys to the White House?

I am frustrated. If we don’t start to play the same games as the loony left does and do it now, we will have a lot of ground to make up before the next election. This is what happened in 2006. Ready for a repeat?

    COgirl…

    Great Post—Great Information—Thank You…

The two things that jump-out at me are:

““…they have to purge their own house of liberals who don’t pledge allegiance to the leftist worldview.”” Tammy Bruce…

““…the plans for socialism (i.e., wealth distribution for votes using your tax dollars).”” COgirl…

One of the campaign pledges ((which, I believe, was also a personal goal)) made by President Bush 2000—2004 was to “change the tone in Washington”…

The American Voter is the only ‘one’ who can do that…

Personally, I think this is ‘the’ mistake President Bush has made…and it has a direct impact on every issue we face today…

    Liberalism IS a “Socialist Worldview”…

They never miss an opportunity to ‘take ground’—to ‘seize power’…

    Sept 11, 2001—Waco Texas—Ruby Ridge—Oklahoma City Bombing—Katrina—Abu Grab—Columbine—Virginia Tech…

    It’s always the same…

    ““Bush ‘sucks’—You & I are stupid—You & I are to blame—Free Health Care for the Nation””…

I know President Bush understands this…

“How to deal with it” is the issue…

We need a Leader in the Oval Office whose total focus is the American People…

Conservatives are NOT Followers…They ((We)) are Independent Thinking Individuals…

But Conservatives DO need—and have ALWAYS needed—a Leader who’s able Rally them…

That’s the President’s job…he can still do this…and he needs to do this…

    One thing is certain…

We need to Elect a President in 2008 who understands and who uses the Bully Pulpit to Rally the American Spirit…

The President who does that will NEVER have to worry about a Liberal Media…

And…the American Voter will take-care of the ‘tone in Washington’…on Election Day…

COGirl – When you put together your list of liberal targets, you forgot a couple of huge targets on their list of scalps that they have taken, Newt Gingrich and his replacement Livingston. That is one reason why Newt can never win a general election.

Second, you ask “Where are the conservatives?” Why not go after your list of targets? That question MUST be addressed to George Bush, not the conservative base. The base would love to go after your target list. Remember, Bush had not even gotten comfortable in his Oval Office chair when he issued a edict that the Justice Dept. was NOT to go after the Clintonoids that vandalized the White House and Old EOB on the way out. Bush’e campaign committee paid for the repairs. As someone that was born and raised in Washington DC, I can tell you that the ONLY way that “Socks” Berger gets off with the plea deal that was a tap on the wrist, is because that is what Bush wanted. Can you imagine Lyndon Johnson, Harry Truman, Bill Clinton, etc. NOT telling their Atty. Gen. to get that SOB and put him away for a hundred years? Can you imagine FDR, or Truman, or LBJ, or Clinton letting the media getting away with disclosing national defense secrets without there being repercussions? Yes, Bush called the NY Times people in and explained why they shouldn’t publish those secrets. So what? They were convinced that he would not do anything effective to punish them, and they were right. I will stop here, but I could cite further examples of Bush refusing to exact any cost from folks that go out to undermine and denigrate him.

You ask, “Why can’t we fire up the base?” That is easy. Everytime the base shows signs of getting fired up, Bush throws water on the flames. Look how Bush denigrated his base when we wouldn’t simply go along with his nomination of Harriet Meyers for the Supreme Court. He screamed sexist. He screamed far right bigots, etc. Then there was the affair of the Minutemen. He has called them vigilantes, and accused them of anti-immigrant and anti-hispanic bigots. Never mind that Bush has thrown the doors of our border wide open for Mexican citizens to flood across our border for purposes far beyond simply filling lawful jobs that are going begging. As a matter of fact, the conservative base is about the ONLY group that Bush seems willing to stand up and smack in the mouth.

There is more, but I will get off the soap box with this. End of rant.**==

Great post, absolutely. Keep up the good work and keep getting the word out about this! You should read Whittaker Chamber’s book, Witness, to see how the tactic of strategic placement of ‘the progressive element’ took place in the late 30s to late 40s. The forward is brilliant, and is available for free on the web.

  4. Big Mo Says:

Caleb – yeah, yeah, yeah. but people like you conveniently forget things Bush has done conservative-wise:

    judges
    tax cuts
    abortion curbs

people like you are so blasted purist that if someone is not 100% conservative on every issue, you claim they only “slap conservatives” in the face.

The issue here is fighting the left. Even if Bush hasn’t done it the way we’d like, it must be done. How many times are we going to let the left manipulate the media? What are WE going to do about it? What does it take to make us angry AT THE LEFT? We can get angry about Bush all we want but he’s only the president for another year and 3/4. I want to see someone else step up to the plate and I want the conservative blogosphere to be united in pointing out what the loonies are doing. I’m pissed off about this.

    My 2 cents worth.
