Another Blow for Student Visas?

Courtesy of Drudge, I found a story from Michael Sneed at the Chicago Sun-Times about the potential identity of the monster who killed 32 students at Virginia Tech on Monday.

Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa.

The 24-year-old man arrived in San Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators have not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source said.

Perhaps by the time you read this post, the answer will be known, but Sneed raises an interesting question if he’s right. Could it be that another student visa results in deaths of Americans? If that is the case, then I think questions must be raised about the process of issuing student visas.

I’m not going to speculate any more than this. I am still in shock about the situation. As a mother of a college student, I can only think of what the surviving students and parents of the deceased must be feeling. I can imagine the fear the parents who have been unable to reach their son or daughter must be feeling. God bless all of them. My prayers are with them.

Campus Self-Defense Squelched at Va. Tech in 2006

“I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions,” Hincker said on Jan. 31, 2006, “because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus…”

I don’t think Student Visas will come under much criticism, unless it is learned that this guy had long-standing mental instability — which is logical, but might not have been apparent in his application for the visa.

I’m friends with a guy from Jordan and a guy from the Congo, both here and on campus via student visas. Nicer guys I’ve not met.

Any act such as these by individuals with student visa needs to be closely looked at. Any form of terrorist act is not tolerated in this country. It bad enough that we are to burdened by such travesties; but if there is a chance that it could be avoided, then I’m a for tighter requirements to obtain a student visa or any such visa.

We should not be taking things for granted. Its bad enough that our law enforcements have a hard time dealing with murders and other severe crimes. Our law enforcement shouldn’t be playing immigration with guest to our country. Whether they are here as illegals residence or legal alien permanent residence or student visa, working visa, or tourist visa, they are still consider guest in our country. And as guest, they should be mindful that they need to keep their nose clean or they will be kick out of this country.

Isn’t this how those terrorist that committed 9/11 came about? Hmmmm.
