Reaction of the Troops to the Surrender Bill
Hat tip to Caleb for the link to this story.
From Blackfive
This is just heart wrenching.
From a soldier just returned to Ft. Hood from Iraq:
A lot of the guys in my unit can’t stand the weak, whiny, nonsense that is comming from Congress. I know it makes me sick to think these people get…to run our great country into the ground.
And from Camp Victory, anger:
I am in Camp Victory… I was in Tallil, and Balad in ‘03/’04…I am sickened by the treasonous actions of the Democrats. I believe that they should consider themselves lucky that the Armed Forces, that they so readily give up for sacrifice, don’t turn their weapons on the most dangerous of our enemies in this
conflict.From Kuwait:
As a sailor in Kuwait (it sounds weird to me too), I just want to tell you that those cowardly, greedy, short-sighted, spineless pieces of you know what that voted for this abortion of bill, should all be forced to come here for tour, just for a reality check. How can they complain about the Iraqi government not STEPPING UP, when the Congress is all but falling down! Talk about factions and greed! I can’t believe the pork in that bill. If such an arbitrary date is not harmful, and we are leaving regardless of conditions, WHY NOT cut off funding for the Iraq campaign, and have us home tomorrow? Oh, right, they would look bad. The election news wouldn’t hide it. Oh, yeah, election…….. They believe that THEY will be in charge in November…..God forbid that there are any messy international problems, especially ones that they VOTED FOR AND AUTHORIZED!
Our elected officials have let down our troops. How on earth can this country go on asking young men and women to give up their lives to serve their country, when the Democrats and Chuck Hagel are so willing to dishonor them? No matter what job you do in your life, you like to know that your work is appreciated. I feel terribly for the slap in the face given to them by Congress. Shame shame shame.

I wonder how many feel like these soldiers as opposed to those who say that all the repetitive deployments have destroyed morale

To everyone fighting for Iraqi AND American freedom overseas: We (average, hard-working, tax paying Americans) still support you and pray for you and your families every day, regardless of what the spineless Dems do. Fortunately there are leaders in position to lead and not be pushed around by the loud voices of a few that seem to get the press. Pelosi, Webb, Reed and all the others (including some Republicans) should be ashamed of themselves. We will oust you in the next election like our brave men and women ousted the ruthless dictator of Iraq.

MFG - According to Matt (Mr. Blackfive) his emails universally are of the veriety that are represented here. He gets email from troops that are deployed, troops that are back home after being deployed, and from the parents and spouses of troops that are currently deployed and back home. Of all the comments on this post there was one legitimate divergent opinion from the father of two servicemen talking about the opinion of the older one that has been deployed and is back. There were (I think) 2 comments from liberal trolls. All the rest reflected the opinion expressed in this post. I find this attitude almost universal among my network of military associated and retired military correspondents. The only one that takes a different view is Oak Leaf, a poster at Polipundit. He has done a 180 on the war in the last 6 mos. Many of us devoutly believe that Bush has totally messed up this war, but we do so because we don’t like PC wars and we think that the war should be fought with a good deal MORE violence to the enemy and less worry about “collateral damage” and zero dang military lawyers allowed in the theater of combat.
Eagles up!

Thanks, Caleb!
I had been reading Oak Leaf’s posts over at Polipundit and wondered how much of that mentality was shared by average soldiers

Our whole Christian culture was built upon the blood of martyrs. Our brave young people are there risking their lives and prepared to sacrifice them for this if necessary but there are those whose cowardly fear and self-hatred will tear down our society. No wonder the Islamists are on the rise. They’re not afraid to give their lives (albeit to a warped and twisted cause). God help us!
