Waste, Bribery, Broken Promises, Pointless Bills, And Surrender = Democrat Congress
The Chicago Tribune reports on the Iraq Surrender Bill:
WASHINGTON — The war spending bill passed by the House on Friday is officially called the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans’ Health and Iraq Accountability Act. But Republicans would say that it could also be called the Spinach Growers, Peanut Storage and Dairy Farmers Rescue Act.
President Bush asked for $103 billion for expenses related to fighting the war on terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. He got that and more: not only a series of deadlines for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, but also $21 billion in additional spending, much of it unrelated to war.
……
Democrats ignored reforms they pushed through in January, Republicans complained.
The House adopted rules requiring that appropriation “earmarks” for special purposes identify their authors. But when Republicans tried to object to the special-interest provisions in the war funding bill, they were told they should have lodged objections at the outset of the debate — Thursday, in this case.
“By passing earmark reforms, Congress signaled that it was serious about restoring fiscal responsibility to the budget process,” said Tom Schatz, president of Citizens Against Government Waste. “It seems the commitment to reform was short-lived.”
Michael at AmeriCAN-DO has an extensive evaluation of the bill - including its earmarks, and an excellent round up of bloggers reporting on various aspects of the bill.
If ever there was a single bill that encapsulated all that is wrong with democrats this one is it.
-
*Spending - by adding $21 BILLION dollars in extra spending on such essentials like spinach relief, democrats have a well-earned notorious reputation for spending. The bribery in this bill is McSpending: democrats said “We’d like to Super Size that Combo Graft.”
*Broken Promises - they aren’t living up to either the promise to their White Flag Caucus to withdraw war funds outright - nor to the blue dogs’ promise to avoid hamstringing the troops in the field. In fact they passed ethics reform on spending - but they haven’t adhered to that one either. Pick a level or a constituency - it’s been betrayed.
*Cowardice - Call this the Surrender Bill - Democrats surrendered principles with their cowardly approach to dwindle cash away from the troops. Slow bleed is what we hear as they say their hollow words “I support the troops”. This bill is not an overt act, but it sneaks out the backdoor, cutting off cash if they don’t like the outcome, and trust me, Iraq could become the UK in eight months and the democrats in Congress would complain about the accent. Cowards for their country and cowards to their country, this bill is a monument to democrat cowardice.
*Corruption - It was all smoke and mirrors - everyone knows democrats establish rules for the purpose of controlling republicans, there is no ethics concern if there is a D behind your name. So breaking the earmark rule that they themselves established… par for the course.
*Superficial and Non-Substantive - There is no way this bill will ever be signed by the President, and the democrats haven’t got the votes to overturn a veto on a bill they know will be vetoed… Passed by six votes, this was purely political theater. It was never meant to be enacted. It’s a pittance of red meat to the Code Pinkers Pinning the War on the Donkeys. Democrats are concerned with appearance far more than actual achievements. The troops need money and the stall is on. Pointless political maneuvering - call it the “pre-vent de-fense”. Democrats are all about preventing the national defense.
*Waste - Whether it is wasting time, wasting money, or wasting effort, the democrats are the winners in the all-wasted contest.
*Bribery - And if you can’t get good people of conscience to vote for a measure, buy the votes with earmarks. Standard Operating Procedure. Democrats and bribery go together like carrots and peas, as Forrest Gump would say. Or more appropriately democrats and bribery go together like blue dogs and fleas. Abscam Murtha, Refrigerator Jefferson, Real Estate Reid… name a democrat and see who comes to the trough to feed…
Pelosi passed the Iraq Surrender Bill and absolutely no one will scrape by without paying for this folly. Not the military fighting a propaganda war that is larger than the instability they face, nor the taxpayers wondering why they have to pay for nasty spinach and bad shell fish in a war appropriations bill, nor the democrats themselves who face the voters in a few months with the lies they’ve told, the souls they’ve sold, and cowardly yellow rings around their collars.
That’s the trouble with selling out your own country, after that, the sky is the limit.

Ouch! And everything you wrote is true. What the dems have done is attempt to castrate the military. They have told the military that they (Congress) are smarter than the trained professionals. It is the stench of arrogance and of caring more for themselves than for the country. I think Friday will come back to haunt them at some point in the future.
