Writing History

Michael Barone has a great article this morning about writing history, Berger & Libby: A Tale of Two Crimes.

He contrasts the way the case against Berger was presented by the media and tried versus Scooter Libby’s case. Berger stole classified documents from the National Archives by stuffing them down his pants. Libby had a faulty memory. Berger pays a $50,000 fine but can work in government after 2007. Libby faces time in jail. Barone concludes that the MSM Democrats are doing a better job of writing history to spin the stories their way than are the Republicans.

But Barone makes a comment about the Berger case that should set off alarms for citizens of this country.

Some of these documents may have been unique and may have contained handwritten comments that could have looked bad in light of what happened on September 11. I have known Berger more than 30 years and find it unlikely that he would have done something like this on his own.

Did Bill Clinton ask him to destroy documents that would make him look bad in history? I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I ask that question. But this or something very much like it seems to be the only explanation that makes sense.

Hillary is running on her “experience” and, friends, that experience isn’t 6 years in the Senate. She thought of herself as co-president during Bill’s terms in office. We have seen time and again that the Clintons are ruthless, that they care about nothing but power, that they will do anything to get and keep it. Barone’s statement should be a reminder of just what we would get with a President Hillary. She and Bill are indeed birds of a feather.

I’m reminded of the saying: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. WAKE UP AMERICA. One Clinton was enough.

  1. Kathy Says:

Libby wasn’t found guilt for anything except being a republican. There are countless examples of this:
    Foley v. Stubbs
    Lott v. Byrd
    Berger v. Libby
    Frist v. Reid
    DeLay v. Jefferson
    Cunningham v. Murtha

Who gets prosecuted and who goes back to Congress?

Political prosecutions are unworthy of this country. We might as well have Chavez in the WH if Bush lets this stand.

Why didn’t Bush pursue this? I think Tigerhawk is likely right: whatever Berger knew, it probably put Bush in a bad light.
