Gutter-mouth Coulter
Ann Coulter can make terrific, witty, biting arguments on paper. But she has a big mouth — and often lets loose with some really idiotic and offensive stuff.
At the CPAC today, she said: “I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.â€
Huh? What’s the point of that, Ann? I’m no fan of Edwards, but that’s utterly uncalled for.
What’s more, a brainless attack like that gives him the status of a victim.
Stupid. Just stupid.

Agreed, she’s an idiot, and should be banned from any GOP or related event.

I agree. Ann Coulter’s one of my favorites, but she crosses the line on numerous occasions. She has a tendency to put her mouth in gear before her brain is clutching.
But she is one of the few examples to be found on the Right who answer Democrats in kind. Many Dems feel no compunction at lashing out at the motives, even morals of Conservatives in the harshest terms. Policy differences are always presented as good and evil. Ann gives it right back to them. She’s talented in removing the assumption that Democrats have no underlying motive, other than ‘helping the downtrodden’.
Ann was raised on debate at the dinner table. I think some of her motivation is the result of watching Democrats demonize Republicans for years, while Republicans remained gracefully silent.

Ann Coulter is edgy because it sells books, and she is first and foremost a book seller.
This venue was not the best place to make such a comment, but the comment itself was not surprising for her, and you can parse what she said or didn’t say.
The reporting is over the top, but about what you would expect on a day when the MSM might have to devote a few column inches to something other than the Oscars or Anna Nicole.

Ann Coulter - The Lightening Rod
So Ann Coulter said faggot and the world has fallen apart. “I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.” I’m actually kind of dumbfounded at the reaction from fellow conser…

Boy-I just can’t stand her and I think she’s one of our worst detriments. Amazingly–she and Bill Maher (sp?) are close friends.

OT-I’m fuming at the firing of the 8 U.S. attys–particularly my friend David Iglesias here in N.M. David’s been my DOJ atty for the Indian voting rights program I run and I supported him strongly when he was appointed about 7 yrs ago. (He was the character Tom Cruise played in “A Few Good Men”, btw) All of these U.S. attys could have been fired for no cause and with no comment. But, no, the administration had to blame it on “performance based” reasons. That will not stand up to scrutiny in our U.S. atty’s office and it triggered a Congressional inquiry beginning next Tuesday. RCP has a story this morning. How does this relate to Ann Coulter? Well, if they were quietly fired–there’s no story. The statement that it was based upon “performance” won’t withstand examination. Sometimes “no comment” really is the best answer.

Ann Coulter is a shocker - that’s her schtick. She creates controversy for a reason. Of course the outrage directed at Ann is not delivered with equal force at the actual government officials who have called the sitting President of the United States far worse names.
There is one thing republicans have in common with democrats: we both hold republicans to higher standards.
Is it working for us?

NO it’s not, as we are tying our own hands when dealing with the demonrat gutter trash, WE must get into the trenches with them, as counrty club repubs have found out from the past., When in rome ~~~~~etc.

IP727-The movie character was inaccurate. What I should have said was he was the defense counsel played by Tom Cruise. The movie wasn’t close to accurate. I had a long conversation with David when the movie came out.

Ann Coulter is a moron, and has never been a Republican I would ever proudly stand next to. She is to us what a successful version of Randi Rhodes is to the Democrats. She’s a simple, juvenile guttersnipe — and just because she occasionally amuses us by infuriating Democrats, or saying what no other Republican is willing to, does not mean she is someone we should boast about having on our side.
I’d cast her out in a heartbeat. A person like that has no place in adult society. There’s only one thing for which I give her credit: she’s very, very successful at playing us into buying her books.

Works for me.

The gloves have to come off for us to turn the tide against them.

Ann Coulter is great! So what if she is on the edge of Republican decorum. When we attack our own, we are helping those dimwitted, self-serving, un-American demon-rats.
We need more Republicans/conservatives to call a spade a spade, and grow some backbone.
As for the US Attorney issue above, we need more firings, not less. Did not Bill Clinton, convicted perjurer, fire all the US Attorneys in the country at the start of his first administration?

Passionate America: take your ping-back and shove it. No one here cheated. Someone set us up. And US, RINOs? Because we think Coutler’s schtick is stupid?
Whatever. Get bent.
March 3rd, 2007 at 3:11 pm
Taken in context, John Edwards was not called a faggot. Certainly, the Deans of the world interpret it that way. I believe it was more a slam on the PC crowd. Read the whole thing.
“Calling a spade a spade” was not implying we should start calling names, but rather to buck up and stop being so defensive.
When you invite AC to speak, you know what you are getting. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing, and she’s an author, not a politician seeking office.
March 3rd, 2007 at 3:25 pm
On another site we’ve been called RINO’s for being critical of Coulter’s “humor.” Whatever. I think that conservatives should hold ourselves to a higher standard.
Let me ask you something. I know he’s not a saint, but would Reagan have said a “joke” like that?

Jeanette, I can’t argue with you on the sound bite politics, and the Dems are better at using them than the Republicans.

My comment in post 23 “That kind of namby pamby ripon republicanism has cost us many an election.” is an OBSERVATION and flames no one.
It would appear you have done a little “flaming” as well. to wit:

That kind of namby pamby ripon republicanism has cost us many an election.
And the self-righteous, uncompromising, suicidal, black-and-white Republican sect have cost us a few, as well. Not the least of which was the last one.
Anyone who calls a person they disagree with a faggot (or an equally vile insult, as have been levied many a time against President Bush by the left) is a mass of human garbage. Republican or Democrat, they deserve even scorn. We are better than them. When they call President Bush a nazi, they lose supporters, and defame themselves. Sinking to their level may make the simpletons in our ranks feel better, but it won’t help us politically.
Any person who disagrees with that, I’m frankly happy to be aware of — and to keep my distance from.
(By the way, comparing Rush to Ann Coulter, in any way, shape, or form, is an insult to Rush Limbaugh.)

Well rather than have someone try to pick a fight with me for something I didn’t say - let me elaborate.
First - Equal time should be given to the Reid remarks which is why 38 comments on this topic is just sad.
Second - There is a faction of the party which believes the gloves have been taken off. There is a reason they believe that. They see lying down while someone kicks you as a losing strategy.
Third - There is also a group of people who think political correctness is a rule that we must abide irregardless of what is said by the other side. They never fail to castigate anyone on their own side for transgressions, and sigh with acquiescence when the other side does it.
Fourth - It doesn’t achieve the ends Ann Coulter desires. Throwing gasoline on a fire doesn’t put it out, but neither does sitting around watching it burn. It’s pointless behavior.
Fifth - This is one issue where we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. We call those NO WIN situations. So I don’t judge her and I don’t judge those who judge her. It doesn’t matter what anyone of us thinks anyway - she’ll do as she pleases. It’s that old troublesome free speech thingy.
Sixth - since I sit clearly in the middle of the road on this one - I’m sure I’ll be hit by both sides.
As an aside - We were never disqualified and there is no connection between our bloggers and the IPs that padded the vote. Printing that HRP was disqualified for cheating is a known lie, not a mistake, but a malicious falsehood.
I find it interesting that some fool who accuses us of being disqualified for cheating still reads us. He doesn’t believe his own lie -
I report you decide - does he print lies because in his infinitesimally small brain he thinks he can somehow appear better? In this case let me make the point - Ann Coulter doesn’t help republicans with her malice any more than lying to his readers makes his blog appear better. Just a thought. But he has every right to make an ass of himself. It is a free country.
I’m simply a libertarian on this issue.

Count me with IP, this nation has become too sissified. What matters is if you could be trusted in the trenches when the bad guys come to kill you…..words are just words….and Republicans should be tired of being held to a different standard for what they say.
I don’t mind if you trash Ann for her opinions, but I do mind if you give the Political Correctness Police more cover, which is what you are doing by over-reacting to this hardly earth-shaking comment. Hell, it aint much worse than Dowd saying Obama has big ears now, it it? Don’t be so sensitive.
