Random Blogging Thoughts part 2

One. Ever since I took my first steps toward becoming a writer/editor/journalist/crank, I’ve been aware of how we’re “losing the language.” A collection of lefty dolts are comparing rounding up and deporting illegal, e.g., lawbreaking, aliens to the Holocaust. That’s right! Says one brilliant Democrat,

“This unfortunately reminds me of when Hitler began rounding up the Jews for no reason and locking them up,” Democratic Party activist Carla Vela said. “Now they’re coming for the Latinos, who will they come for next?”

Miss Vela. Please. The illegals will be sent home, not to concentration camps and gas chambers. Get over yourself, woman.

Two. Did you know that with the death of Gerald Ford, our elder statesman is now George H. W. Bush? He’s (thankfully) older than Jimmy Carter by four months. Both were born in 1924.

Three. Michael Totten’s posted the second part of his report from Beirut. It’s a fascinating look at a Christian “alliance” with Hezbollah. In Lebanon, at least, Christian needs Muslim and Muslim needs Christian, says one source.

Four.
Thomas Sowell, inspiration for this column, writes Dec. 28 that: “People in the media, in academia, and among the intelligentsia in general who are obsessed with disparities in income and wealth usually show not the slightest interest in how that income and wealth were produced in the first place.”

But you can stay far ahead of most self-proclaimed progressives by reading Sowell’s Basic Economics: A Citizen’s Guide to the Economy.

Five. Just shake your head, laugh and weep (and in a couple of places, cheer) at these media corrections, clarifications, typos and apologies of the year.

Big Mo, thanks for your random thoughts. My favorite has to be #4 because that’s my hot button!

When my husband and I got married 33 years ago, we had maybe $1000 that I had saved up in babysitting money while I was growing up and a 510 Datsun sedan. We were still in school so we worked and studied. We lived off of $450 a month max. We sacrificed during those early years so that we could live comfortably in the future.

I deeply resent those who think they are entitled to what I have when they have not made any sacrifices whatsoever. In life, you have to learn to live with the consequences of your actions. It’s about choices.
