Random blogging thoughts thingee part 1

Thomas Sowell often writes columns of “Random Thoughts.” I love ‘em, and since flattery is the sincerest form of stealing, or something like that :), I’m going to do a similar random blogging thoughts thingee.

The serious:

One. Our blogging friend Morning Coffee often writes posts on missing children. This is Darrell’s latest, from Dec. 16. Pass information like this far and wide. John Walsh proved the power of television with his America’s Most Wanted series. And the TV show Without A Trace has actually helped find a missing person or two. So let’s help show the power of the Internet by spreading information like this.

Two. So Barack Obama’s middle name is Hussein. Big deal. Do you care? I don’t. Blue Crab Boulevard, Sister Toljah and Blogs of War are also on the same page. I know el Rushbo uses the middle name, but he’s playing for effect, and not accusing Obama of anything. A man’s actions are far more important than his name, and Mr. Obama has never shown the slightest sympathy for jihadists, as far as I know.

Three. Only today’s Hollywood liberal dolts could make movies that make Americans in World War II the bad guys. George Looney, er, Clooney’s latest courageous screed against America, The Good German, takes place in Germany just after World War II. Who are the bad guys? Unreformed Nazis? Escaped SS? Concentration guards? The dead Hitler and his equally dead inner circle? Nope. Americans and the American government, because we had the temerity to make use of German rocket scientists after the war. Come on, Looney! This is World War II you’re talking about! Even The Village Voice hates this thing (but not for the same reasons).

Now, Clint Eastwood isn’t a Hollywood dolt as far a I know, but he did manage to belittle our war effort in World War II with Flags of Our Fathers, which was actually a good and moving book. But he makes the Japanese soldiers to be innocent victims of their government and manages to slime American Marines in Letters From Iwo Jima, a film from the enemy’s point of view. Sigh. What’s up with that, Clint?

Fourth. While wrapping Christmas presents all by my lonesome on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, I watched, for the umpteenth time, Franco Zeffirelli’s magnificent Jesus of Nazareth miniseries. This is the second Christmas in a row I’ve watched it. Used to be, I saw parts of it every Easter. But it’s just as appropriate now. I had thought that Robert Powell never smiled while portraying Jesus, but he did, especially when dining in the Pharisee’s house. It is a powerful performance. Michael York is also quite powerful as John the Baptizer. In fact, there’s not a single dud performance anywhere in this awe-inspiring miniseries.

The not-so-serious:

Fifth. There were no fewer than 12 major animated films released to theaters in 2006: The Ant Bully, Barnyard, Cars, Curious George, Everyone’s Hero, Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Monster House, Open Season, Over the Hedge and The Wild. The best one by far, IMHO, was Cars. Second best was Over the Hedge.

Sixth. Check out this list of the 50 greatest cartoons of all time (shorts, not full-length movies). Of course Bug Bunny and Daffy Duck are well-represented. How could they not be? That’d be dethpickable!

(And if you’ve never seen Bambi Meets Godzilla, shame on you.)

    Nice post, Big Mo.

I think George Clooney really hates the U.S. I used to like Matt Damon, favorite movie was “Good Will Hunting”, but even in that movie there’s a scene where he spouts criticism of the country. I try to NEVER watch any of their movies. Hell, I try not to pay money to watch any movies. Hollywood has lost the plot.

Mo - I am afraid that you have not been paying attention to the real world. Clint Eastwood has been a big Hollywood Liberal from day 1. He has never been anything but a Hollywood Liberal. Just because he has rarely gone public with his politics doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a committed liberal. Do you not remember his movie “Forgiven”? Look he made his Dirty Harry and other “conservative” movies to make money. He played a part written by someone else, directed by someone else, and made to be watched by someone else. My good man, you really do need to get a better grip on the reality of various notable people’s views and politics. Next thing you know, you will be trying to convince us that Sly Stalone really believed all the lines that he spouted in his Rambo movies.

Caleb - hmm. I guess I just wasn’t aware of Clint’s politics because he didn’t wear them like George Looney does.
