CBS - Shameless

I wasn’t sure I would write about this but decided to to prove a point. My good friend (a fellow conservative) Scott sent this to me in an email:

CBS, Charlie Sheen bash Christ, Christmas and Christians
Charlie Sheen makes Joy to the World into a cheap sex song

CBS and actor Charlie Sheen have used the Christmas season to ridicule and mock Christ, Christmas and Christians. CBS approved actor Charlie Sheen’s vulgar adaptation of a favorite Christian Christmas carol. On the December 11 program, the network included in their Two and a Half Men an episode featuring Sheen singing about his sexual activity to the tune of the traditional Christmas hymn “Joy to the World.”

CBS and Sheen knew that the lyrics would greatly offend Christians, but did not hesitate to air them. Click here to see the episode on CBS.

The episode opens with series star Charlie (Sheen) singing:
“Joy to the world, I’m getting laid; I’m getting laid tonight. We’ll light the yule log, deck the halls, and then we’ll play some jingle balls. It’s been a real long wait – this is our second date! It’s Christmas Eve and I’m getting laid.”

His housekeeper/cook comes in and asks:
“Hey, I’m mixing up the egg nog. You want this broad lit up or just slightly glowing?” “Well,” Charlie says, “let’s see, we’re celebrating peace on earth and good will towards all mankind, so let’s get ‘er plowed!” “Hallelujah!” says the cook.

Charlie returns to singing, “Glo-oh-oh-oh-oh-ria, tonight I’m boinking Gloria!” CBS punctuates every single line with a laugh track.

I saw this episode last Monday and turned to my girlfriend at the time saying, “Maybe it’s time for us to stop watching this show.” Yes, the scene is crude and highly offensive. But it speaks to a larger issue.

To paraphrase Ann Coulter in her book Godless: The Church of Liberalism Christianity seems to be the only religion that it is okay to bash. CBS, Sheen, and numerous other media shows and outlets prove this on a regular basis. Think not? Ask yourself, would CBS (or any other media outlet) have done the same thing with a Muslim religious piece of music? I sincerely doubt it. You see, we Christians are the radical weirdos so it’s fair game to pick on us.

I’m not surprised at Charlie Sheen (he’s a HUGE lib) or the show’s writers because sex (sadly) is a MAJOR premise in plot. But for CBS to green light this is outrageous. A major network shouldn’t so actively and brazenly seek to alienate potential customers.

    Nothing surprises me any more.

Satan is alive and well and living in this country.

  2. Kathy Says:

Four years ago David Limbaugh published his treatise on this subject Persecuted which listed off a number of attacks on Christians and Christianity.

Apparently the liberal tolerance religion only includes their personal choices, not ours.

Is CBS still on the air?

I am just as offended by the movie coming out on Christmas Day called Black Christmas, it is a horror movie, I told my kids the only people who will go see it will be the atheist’s and I hope and believe that by the 3rd week it will be gone.

    Interesting Reading December 18, 2006

In “CBS-Shameless” Falcon at Hang Right Politics talks about an episode of one of the network’s shows in which the music of ‘Joy to the World’ is co-opted (corrupted) for use in a song with obvious sexual connotations.

I thought I was the only one that turned off that show earlier this year. Thanks for the affirmation of this action. I find it HIGHLY offensive and also at such an early time slot. I was so embarrased, that I had to turn the channel whenever one of my 3 teenagers came in the room. After one to 2 segments of this, it was not worth it. It reminded me of having Slick Willy in the news years ago and having to turn off the news when the kids got home from school. Only back then they asked me to explained his actions…..

Floyd Brown reminds us that the left’s assault on Christmas isn’t a new development. Update: Via The Anchoress, here’s the newest low in the War On Christmas, courtesy of, not surprisingly, CBS. Compare and contrast with CBS’s mid-1960s Christmas f…

Why do you bother to watch CBS at all?

  10. Jeanette Says:

Speaking for myself, Ray, I don’t watch network TV unless they put on a great old movie uninterrupted. I guess that means I don’t watch it. Actually, I got out of the TV habit a few years ago and the noise from one drives me crazy when my husband or grandchildren have it on. I like to watch the History Channel, Discovery etc. but not any of the networks.

Ahhh, i’m glad you brought this up, Falcon. I watched it that night, too- and now have decided to not watch again. The entire episode was- well, gross. I suppose i should be heartened by Charlie’s founding of a boundry- yeah, right.

It’s easy, in this world, to brush things off- to not get upset because- it was supposed to be funny, you know? If we can’t laugh at ourselves, etc.

    It wasn’t funny.

I get my news from the internet. I get my TV from DVDs ( I can watch an hour show in under 45 minutes! ). I get my music from CDs. The difference is I PULL towards me what I am interested in rather than waiting for someone to PUSH their selections at me. When you pay for cable, a little bit of your money goes to each and every station offered; you support them all whether you watch them or not. When you watch the networks, you are supportig their news divisons. Start PULLing! Starve the PUSHers!

Of course they’re going to bash Christianity: unlike Islam, it’s a rare exception for a Christian to come down with a little ANFO and blow up the studio… or stab filmmakers who criticize them.

  14. Carol Says:

I watched the first episode of this series because Charlie Sheen is a funny guy but turned it off about half-way through when I realized that it would involve nothing but “banter” that was completely inappropriate for the kid involved. My only question about the show was why on earth the kid’s TV father didn’t immediately bash in the mouth of is brother (not to mention why the kid’s real parents were letting him take part in this drek). What took the rest of you so long?

  15. Gayle Miller Says:

The only person I know who watches and enjoys this show is a suicidal atheist (I’m NOT kidding) so that pretty much clued me in that I wouldn’t enjoy it!

We are on the slippery slopes folks!
