Writing on HRP about the elections is a little bit like preaching to the choir. Unless you’re a troll, the rest of us share common beliefs and values and we vote with the GOP. As I think about the election, the scariest thought for me is Nancy Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House. Aside from the fact that after the Vice President, this position is next in line for the Presidency, Nancy Pelosi is just plain frightening. It’s worthwhile to take a look at who she is.

Pelosi is 66 years old and was born to Italian American parents in Baltimore. One would think that given her heritage she would have higher moral standards and values than she does. She is married and has a net worth of over $25 million, largely from real estate holdings and securities investments.

In office since 1987, she is one of the most liberal members of Congress. According to a Washington Times story (link here), she “was ranked more liberal than 91 percent of her House colleagues on economic issues, 96 percent on social matters and 82 percent on foreign-policy issues.”

Pelosi is pro-abortion, in favor of raising taxes on the “wealthy” to support (and increase) social programs, is for increasing the federal minimum wage, was against the Federal Marriage amendment and supports flag burning. She opposes fair elections and voted no on legislation that would require voter IDs. Pelosi supports embryonic stem cell research (after all, why should life mean anything to her?) and assisted suicide.

She, like all Democrats are weak on national security – she’s opposed the Patriot Act, the NSA surveillance program and the Secure Fence Act. She opposes the war in Iraq and prior to 9/11 was considered a fiscal conservative on military spending, meaning that she was opposed to supporting defense spending. And she’s against the 2nd amendment by supporting gun control.

On illegal immigration, Pelosi is even worse. She strongly supports the rights of immigrants who violated our laws by entering or staying in the country illegally. She has voted in favor of allowing illegals to collect welfare and Medicaid benefits. She has voted against allowing the government to enforce our immigration laws and to secure our borders.

Her judgment is suspect. If Democrats gain control of the House, she will oust Jane Harmon who would be head of the Intelligence Committee in favor of Alcee Hastings, a former judge IMPEACHED from office on charges of bribery and perjury. She accused Republicans of having a culture of corruption, but then dropped the mantra as Democrats have been caught.

According to this source, in 2004 a political action committee (PAC), Team Majority, controlled by Pelosi was fined $21,000 for “for improperly accepting donations over federal limits, according to records and interviews. Pelosi used two PACs, including Team Majority, to raise money for her colleagues during the 2002 election. The fine came from Pelosi’s use of multiple PACs to exceed donation limits to other members’ campaign committees.”

Since her election to Congress, she has received 21% of her election contributions from labor (i.e., unions). Excluding the unions, the largest industries supporting her are lawyers/law firms (6%), real estate (5%) and securities and investments (5%). She’s received 3% of her funding from lobbyists. This is the face of the Democratic party and the person who will lead the House of Representatives if we do not hold on. The values, if any, are out of touch with mainstream America, but in sync with voters in San Francisco. It angers me to think that a person this extreme could be 3rd in line to the Presidency. I’m sure it does you too.
