Dishonest Reporting and the Definition of “Reaching”

Oh, it’s big news, big news, indeed! George W. Bush has admitted that Iraq is like Vietnam! “See, we told you so!” shout the liberals in chorus. Well, not quite.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Yesterday, 11 Americans killed, another American killed today. On a day like that, what kind of reports do you get from the battlefield?

BUSH: Well, I get that report, that soldiers were killed…

STEPHANOPOULOS: Every casualty.

BUSH: Yeah, absolutely, I read every casualty, and it breaks my heart, because behind every casualty is somebody with tears in their eyes. Behind every casualty are families that will be mourning the loss of life for a lifetime. I think the hardest part of the presidency is to meet with families who’ve lost a loved one.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Tom Friedman wrote in the New York Times this morning that what we might be seeing now is the Iraqi equivalent of the Tet offensive…

BUSH: Yeah.

STEPHANOPOULOS: … in Vietnam in 1968. Tony Snow this morning said he may be right.

BUSH: Mm-hmm.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Do you agree?

BUSH: He could be right. There’s certainly a stepped up level of violence, and we’re heading into an election.

STEPHANOPOULOS: But what’s your gut tell you?

BUSH: George, my gut tells me that they have all along been trying to inflict enough damage that we’d leave. And the leaders of Al Qaida have made that very clear.

There’s a big difference between declaring Iraq ‘Vietnam’ and acknowledging similarities between the politically-devastating Tet Offensive and a flare up in violence purposefully engineered to coincide with U.S. elections.

Don’t think the terrorists aren’t keeping a careful eye on what ABC news has to say; they’re aware of the implications of a Democratic congress, and the potential for a Democratic President in 2008. To all those not voting this election “for the good of the country,” consider that you are passively aiding the terrorists’ cause, since a Democratic legislature would almost certainly opt to flee before the job is done in Iraq.

There isn’t any good for the country in that.

In fact, Abu Ayyub al-Masri might even shake your hand before decapitating you, were he given the opportunity.

I wonder what it would take to send Nancy Pelosi over to meet face to face with Abu Ayyub al-Masri?@-)

What would it take to get Nancy Pelosi to leave her multi-million dollar villa in California for the oppressive deserts of Iraq?

    Something like an Executive Order.

And even then, she’d probably run away to France first and apply for asylum.
