WaPo Slaps Harry Reid on the Wrist

They just couldn’t come right out and give him the treatment that they would give a Republican if a Republican had conveniently forgotten to report $700,000 in profit on a $1.1 million transaction and links to organized crime. No, the Washington Post says Harry Reid was probably just sloppy. Mr. Reid’s Nondisclosure

THE BEST CASE for Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) is that he was sloppy about financial disclosure rules in accounting for a real estate deal on which he made a $700,000 profit. The more unattractive case is that the senator’s inaccurate description of the investment was an effort to disguise his partnership with a Las Vegas lawyer who’s never been charged with wrongdoing but whose name has surfaced in federal investigations involving organized crime, casinos and political bribery since the 1980s. As of now, the evidence points toward sloppiness; Mr. Reid’s friendship with Jay Brown isn’t exactly a secret in the state. But either way, an Associated Press report about Mr. Reid’s dealings doesn’t cast the senator in an attractive light. Neither does his response to the AP story, which indicates a casual disregard for the importance of accurate reporting of lawmakers’ financial affairs.

I think that abomination of a man, Harry Reid, knew exactly what he was doing. Please tell me, dear readers — common men and women all of you, would you just forget to report a $700,000 gain? The Washington Post would have us believe that he overlooked it. I’m not buying it. I don’t know what size financial portfolio Reid has, but unless you’re in the league with the gigolo, John Kerry, or fatman, Ted Kennedy, I think $700,000 is a fairly good chunk of anyone’s investments.

The fact that Harry hung up on the AP reporter when he was found out only exposes his guilt. What were you trying to hide, Harry?

But WaPo just slaps Reid on the wrist. WaPo and Reid should be exposed for the hypocrites they are. And while the MSM tries desperately to keep the Foley story alive, this story of corruption and deception falls lower and lower on the list. Give me a break.

The WaPo is really trying hard to slap lipstick on this pig. The article is an incredibly bias piece of PATHETIC journalism. Still, not surprising for the WaPo. [-(

    Here’s where I have a question:

Mr. Reid’s professions of transparency and full disclosure are transparently wrong. His investment was not reported in a manner that made clear his partnership with Mr. Brown. It’s true — under the inadequate financial disclosure rules — that even if Mr. Reid had listed the newly formed corporation, Patrick Lane LLC, that wouldn’t have by itself demonstrated Mr. Brown’s involvement. Nonetheless, that Mr. Reid no longer owned the land, but instead had sold it for an interest in the Patrick Lane corporation, was not some mere “technical change,” as the senator would like to brush it off. It’s an essential element of financial disclosure rules

If that’s true, then how come the evidence points toward sloppiness?

    The evidence points toward sleaze.

Oops - I forgot that measly 700G - happens all the time. Somebody get a broom and some one else lift the carpet…

If he was a republican he’d already be gone..x(

The guy is as dirty as can be. But it’s ok for the MSM to cover up for him, right?

  9. Jeanette Says:

It’s not just the profit he made but the shady dealings to make it look like he no longer had an interest in this property when he did. He never reported that.

If you hang around Vegas long enough and make friends there you are bound to become involved with organized crime.

He’s not the wimpy little Mormon man he would want us all to believe. Without giving my feelings on Mormonism I will just say it would appear he isn’t even living up to their standards.

  10. Republicanpundit Says:

But, Jeanette, he is living down to dimocrat standards!!

    =))

If you are looking for the explaination for something, first look to the simplest explaination, as it is likely the correct one.

    Harry Reid is a crook.

I demand equal justice under the law.

Sen Minority Leader Reid should hang up his spurs instead of hanging up the phone on AP. Even the liberal planets around the NYT sun are agog at the arrogance of this girlie man for his land deals with a “former mobster.” [BTW, what is the statute of limitations for being mobbed up?]

Sounds like the Dems are beginning the slide to Putinization before they are even elected to a majority status. The Russian KGB dwarf is busy giving parts of the economy to Russian mobsters, while his KGB pals and other cronies take the choicest parts of the economic pie.

Making a million without reporting it should be regarded as equivalent to e-mails and IMs to House pages, but look for silence by Pravda on the Hudson. As I was told long ago by a lefty scamster from Columbia U named Mark Rudd, “No fault on the left.”

    The Reid Influence

So the Reid corruption scandal is starting to explode. First there is this report by the WaPo which details much more then just non-disclosure of financial dealings. No, we’re talking influence peddling: Nevada land deeds show Reid and his wife…
