Colorado Governor’s Race
It seems to be a foregone conclusion here in Colorado that Democrat Bill Ritter will win the race for governor against Republican Congressman Bob Beauprez. However, in today’s Rocky Mountain News there was this encouraging story, Pollster: Ritter lead drops in 2 districts.
In the memo, Myers says his polling found Ritter losing most of his lead in one Larimer County district and dropping from a 9 point lead to 5 points in a district centered on Broomfield.
Democrat Ritter is facing Republican Congressman Bob Beauprez in the race for governor.
“I fear we are beginning to watch a trend develop,” wrote Myers. “I am also concerned about the attacks Ritter is enduring and to what extent they are not only energizing Beauprez’s base, but also creating some real doubts among the swing independent voters.”
I have commented before that Beauprez has run an inept campaign, and I still think that. I don’t really think that he can pull off a win here at this late stage, but I find it encouraging that as we get closer to election day, people are starting to take a closer look at the candidates.
And I find that encouraging for ALL of the races across the country. I’ve never really believed the early polls because I just don’t trust the pollsters or their intentions. So those close races that seem to have all of us fretting because the polls say the Dems are ahead, probably won’t change hands in the end.
I believe that as voters take a good hard look at the consequences of turning control of Congress to the Democrats, they just won’t do it. Mike Rosen, a conservative political commentator in Colorado, often makes the comment that “a vote for the man is a vote for the party”. I have faith that people will realize that’s true and will vote straight ticket for the GOP as I do. No Democrat will ever get my vote.

Great post! Will it turn out that Ritter’s support was the proverbial “mile wide but one inch deep?”

Colorado Governor - Is Ritter lead slipping?
We last reported on this race just after the news that Democratic nominee, Denver DA Bill Ritter, had allowed at least 150 criminal aliens to plea bargain down to “agricultural trespass” from serious drug and violent crimes to avoid deportation….

Jim, I’m afraid that many of the same “moderate” Republicans who supported Salazar are behind Ritter in this one. Including people we know. Nonetheless we do what we can to remind them of the consequences. Hopefully, the GOP will get out the vote and things won’t be so bad here.
