A Call To Arms

This is a message to ALL Republican, conservative, and like-minded voters: VOTE FOR FOLEY. Because of Florida election law, the new GOP candidate to replace pedophile-wannabe Rep. Mark Foley cannot have his/her name placed on the ballot for the November election. I’ve thought long and hard about this issue and, other than writing in the new candidate’s name, the people of the FL-16 really need to consider the stakes in this election. Vote for a continuance of GOP representation for your district - the way you want it represented.

Update: There may be a small ray of sunlight that can wash Foley’s name from the ballot according to Oak Leaf:

Earlier, I wrote “(URGENT) Foley CAN Be Removed From The Ballot” in which it appears that Governor Jeb Bush can thread the needle on this and push for a “special primary election” in an effort to get Foleys name removed from the ballot. This is very important for two reasons. First, it will generate tremendous local media coverage that “Foley does not belong on the ballot” and “__________ is the Republican nominee.” This will end up in Leon County Circuit Court which tends to interpret election law liberaly. The Republican Party can offer to pay for the printing of new ballots, though there a very few to be printed because of electronic voting. Further, existing election law already allows, and in fact requires, that the new nominee gets the votes of the old nominee which covers the overseas ballots that may have been sent out.

I really hope this is true. But there’s not much time left to pull it off.

Update II: According to Human Events via Betsy’s Page, we may not need Jeb Bush to intercede:

On September 17, 2004, the Democratic nominee against Rep. Clay Shaw (R.-Fla.) in the neighboring district announced he was withdrawing from the race for health reasons. But his withdrawal letter, according to the Almanac of American Politics, “was not received until September 24 and Secretary of State Glenda Hood, after consulting with Palm Beach and Broward County officials, said it was too late to change the ballot; military and overseas ballots had already been sent out. Two Palm Beach County Democratic officials sued, and a judge in Tallahassee allowed the Democrats to nominate another candidate. . . Democrats named Robin Rorapaugh, a [congressional] aide. Ballots marked for [withdrawn nominee] Stork were deemed marked for her.” Shaw won by a margin of 63% to 35%.

So, it seems the Dems themselves may have given us a way out of this mess. If the GOP in Florida has the cajones to do this (and they SHOULD since there’s a legal precedent), how loud do you think the lib Dems will scream, “FOUL!” :-?

With the Florida Supreme Court I doubt this scenario will work for the Republicans. There isn’t a lot of time to get this together. If the Florida party puts an unknown in as the replacement candidate he’s going to be unknown. Why not leave Foley’s name on the ballot and saturate the district with flyers telling them to vote for Foley and why. It needs to be short and simple for those people to understand it.

We have a great GOTV program. This would be a time to test it. Get the team out in droves and go door to door telling them why they need to vote for the name Foley even though they aren’t voting for Foley. Then again maybe the voters in that district don’t understand what he did and will vote for him anyway.

I would hope it would too awkward even for the Florida Supreme Court to reverse itself on so similar a case.

The GOTV effort would work as well, or better, if we are getting out the vote for the person who is actually running.

    The Latest Democratic Hitjob

Was Foley a perv? Most definately so. But the speed with which the Democrats came out swinging at the Republican leadership, accusing them of knowing about the sexually explicit emails long ago, gave me pause. Not because I believed them, but becaus…
