Thank You Rosie?
From the comment section of Webloggin on a Thank You Rosie O’Donnell thread which is a must read:
I believe that attempts to equate Christianity with Radical Islam, in a modern day context, is an example of an unhealthy fear of Christianity. It is unhinged from my point of view because I believe that modern day liberal politics is premised on an irrational and unsubstantiated fear that the right wing of the United States is inherently theocratic. I think such points of view are too simplistic.
In particular I believe that the verbal attacks on Christians by the likes of Rosie O’Donnell and other spokespeople of the left extend from their deep seated resentment at those who helped elect President Bush. It is clear that President Bush would not have been elected if Christians turned their back on him. This doesn’t substantiate those who believe that Bush is ushering in a theocratic style of government in any way. It just emphasizes that the message of the Democratic Party is out of touch with those who practice faith.
While I defend those who have a strong belief in God I should point out that I am not overly religious myself. I just don’t fear those who are.
Now I am careful to provide a context when speaking about modern day Christianity because we all know that anyone can find historical examples of hate from just about any religious group or movement. I believe that Christians in general have evolved beyond that of radical Islam.
There will be many who point out that radical Islam consists of only a small segment of Muslims and that they are overwhelmingly peaceful. I counter this with the very hard fact that Muslims are overwhelmingly silent when it comes to denouncing the radicals that have taken over their faith. The example is true even today. Where are the Muslim denunciations of the violent attacks on Christians in response to the speech of Pope Benedict? You will note that there is not a wave of equally violent attacks in response by Christians. {emphasis mine}
Thus people like Rosie O’Donnell help further my beliefs along these lines and unfortunately they are not isolated.
Read the entire post, and see the video. If you are a Christian, it will make you angry.

Whoa! Where to begin. My not quite five year old grandson says the Pledge of Allegiance to the Christian flag, the American flag and the Bible. I grew up saying those same pledges and neither he nor I are radicals.
I’m not going to defend the movie because I have seen only the trailer and parts of it disturb me. As a Christian, born-again, I believe and am taught my government on earth is only temporary and the real Kingdom is in Heaven. We are to obey the laws and participate in our government but I find nothing that states we should be violent about it.
If Jesus told us to love others as we love ourselves, what kind of Christians would we be if we were actually training for a war with non-Christians?
Yes I am to be focused more on the afterlife than on the present life. All the pleasures and joys of this world are temporary.
Just because God put me into a special country where I want for nothing is no reason to think I am better than the poorest of the poor who hungers and thirsts everyday.
Yes, I have pledged allegiance to the Christian flag and the Bible, but I have also pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
As a Christian my priorities are God, country, family, self. The Sword a Christian uses is the Word of God, not a conventional weapon by any means, and like the good sister who was martyred for her faith, I would pray God would give me the strength to be a powerful witness if ever I am in the same circumstances, forgiving her murderers with her last breath.
That, my friends, is Christianity. The sister is in heaven now enjoying the fruits of her labors while we here on earth are still struggling.

A big hearty dittos to what Jeanette wrote.
People like Rosie O’D fear “radical” Christianity because they lack a true relationship with Jesus and are more concerned with matters of the flesh, e.g., life on this earth.
They have no idea what following Christ is all about. They just think that mean ol’ Bible thumpers are out to rob them of a good time–instead of leading them to the water and bread of life that saves for all eternity.
But it’s more than just attacks on Christians by the left. It’s attacks on Bible-believing Christians: those who take the Bible as the Word of God, the word that does not need to be “updated” to “get with the times.” The word that does not need to be adapted to fit the culture’s lifestyles and modern living and politican fads and the cause du jour.
Bible-believing Christians are as much of an enemy–if not moreso–to the Rosies of America because we do our best (usually; I am a sinner) to hold true to the word of God. Jesus warned that the world would hate true followers of Him because the world hated Him first. The words and actions of many on the political left is therefore no surprise.
